The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is seeking financial support from the local communities. On Tuesday, August 7, voters in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties can vote on a millage (property tax) that will benefit the museum. If passed, this tax could generate as much as $23 million annually for the museum over the next 10 years.

The tax would cost homeowners on average around $15 per year and would give each resident free admission for each year it remains in tact.

The museum, located off Woodward Avenue in the Cultural Center Historic District, has been a part of the city of Detroit since 1885. DIA’s collection is ranked in the top six museums in the United States.

Whether you are for or against the millage, your vote counts. So get to the polls on Tuesday, August 7, and let your voice be heard! Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
