TGIF Detroit! Weekend Fun for Everyone

Aug 17, 2012

TGIF DETROIT!!!  Weather for this weekend doesn’t look all that bad…

Another week has gone by and hopefully we all accomplished our goals. Remember to stay positive and focus on what you accomplished and not what you couldn’t accomplish this week. Life is too short, which is why I live for the weekends and hopefully you do too!

Below are My Top Picks for some Weekend Fun!

Slow’s Bar B Q Yardbird Sandwich

An Absolute Must Try
Last night while I was watching the Travel Channel’s Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America: the Great Lakes Region, that is of course when I’m not watching Hardcore Pawn (should I really be admitting this publicly?), and lo and behold one of Detroit’s very own restaurants made the Top Three:  Slow’s Bar B Q with the famous Yardbird sandwich, pulled smoked Amish chicken breast drenched in a savory mustard sauce, tossed with sauteed mushrooms and cheddar then topped with applewood bacon – WOW was my mouth watering watching this episode last night….. this most certainly is top on my list to do!  Slow’s Bar B Q is located at 2138 Michigan Avenue.

Dream Cruise Detroit

Take a Ride on the Wild Side
Enjoy some cruisin the old fashion way at the country’s largest one-day car event and it will be passing right through Detroit on Saturday. Enjoy Dream Cruise as 40,000 classic cars travel through the suburbs of DetroitNow we all know that this kind of event can be a downer if you are needing to get around Detroit, but try to keep in mind that some day these great classic cars will literally be history….so if you can seize the moment – or the entire day for that matter – then  just sit back, relax and  enjoy the ride.  Make plans in advance,  even if you are trying to avoid the traffic, by  checking out the map and schedule of events.

The 30th Annual African World Festival

Record Setting Fun
Have you ever dreamed of setting a world record?  Now’s your chance to take part in the World’s Longest Soul Train Line (OK…it may not literally be a record-setting event, but how can you avoid not going?), which you can enjoy being a part of at the  30th Annual African World Festival on  Sunday, Aug. 19th at 6 pm at the Wright Museum.  This special event is meant to pay tribute to Don Cornelius and the Soul Train legacy.  Then later that evening, at 8:30, you can take in the best of Detroit’s Reggae All-Stars.  There are plenty events all weekend long for the entire family, so be sure to check out the event schedule.
