Social Media Day Detroit: 2013 Recap

Social Media Day Detroit

On June 27th, 2013 we joined forces with the attendees of Social Media Day Detroit to spread the message about the great city of Detroit!  It was a fun event, and we definitely made some noise on social media, with 149,952,936 online impressions from the event!

Attendees joined us at our “U-Box Vine Lounge” to hang out and  record 6-second Vine videos answering one simple question, “Why do you think people should move to Detroit?”

Here are just a few of the reasons Detroiters shared with us!

“Move to Detroit, because there is a movement happening like never before.  It’s Amaaaaazing!”  Via @king_dna

“Born, raised and educated here. Why should I go anywhere else. Invest my talent in Michigan!” via @jmfpatt

“…Because we have Lions, Tigers and Wings oh, my!” via @vjmoon

“You’ve got to Move to Detroit because it’s the place to be. It’s a happening town! via @mikekmcclure

“… for the arts and music overdose, every night of the week!” via @lindaswany

Detroit has the opportunity to thrive, but in order to do so, we need people,  young people come and do it with us.”  via @jesssader

Want to hear more?  You can watch all the Vine videos on the U-Haul Vine account.  We had over 60 videos recorded in  our U-Box vine lounge, that evening, but one lucky attendee, Lacee H. won herself a U-Haul bike and a VIP Pass to our Midtown grand opening event!

To keep the high energy going, we hosted a dance contest at the end of the night. The best rendition of “Back it up like a U-Haul truck”, won a Bike Rack and a VIP Pass to our New Center grand opening event!  Below are a a few photos of our finalists.  It was a close competition, but Andrea J. dropped down into the splits and took the prize by audience vote.
