U-Haul 2016 Canadian Destination City No. 4: Edmonton

Jun 27, 2017

Edmonton is the No. 4 U-Haul Canadian Destination City for 2016, according to the latest U-Haul migration trends.

Edmonton endured a 10.7 percent decrease in year-over-year arrivals to slide back one spot from its 2015 ranking, but it remains one of the busiest Canadian markets for incoming U-Haul trucks.

U-Haul Destination Cities are ranked according to the total number of arriving one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year. Destination Cities do not account for departing traffic and thus do not necessarily reflect growth like U-Haul Growth Cities. Destination Cities reflect the volume and regularity of do-it-yourself movers coming into a community.

Downtown Revitalization

“As one of Canada’s most vibrant and prosperous cities, Edmonton has long enjoyed a reputation as a ‘destination city,’ attracting both new residents and tourists alike to Alberta’s capital,” stated Lee Ferris, Marketing and Digital Communications Manager for the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.

“The city has recently undergone a transformative downtown revitalization, courtesy of the Ice District and other anchor properties. This is extremely attractive to young families and urban professionals keen to experience a more cosmopolitan lifestyle.”

U-Haul has five Company-owned stores and 21 independent neighborhood dealers within the city limits, and also offers many more locations to fulfill the needs of suburbs outside Edmonton. Find U-Haul truck and trailer sharing locations in Edmonton at uhaul.com/locations.

“The housing market is strong, and communities continue to sprout in and around Edmonton with new pockets of development,” said Frederick Ward, U-Haul Company of Northern Alberta president. “We continue to add U-Haul neighborhood dealers to serve more families here with more convenient locations. With the growth of Edmonton comes the need for more do-it-yourself moving equipment and self-storage. U-Haul is determined to serve the families that are utilizing our services.”

U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The geographical coverage from more than 21,000 U-Haul locations provides a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry. Migration trends data is compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck rental transactions that occur annually.
