In celebration of Valentine’s Day, a small group of U-Haul® Team Members prepared and served food at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Central and Northern Arizona.
Families staying at the Ronald McDonald “Roanoke House” have typically traveled from a considerable distance and benefit from volunteers providing meals while they spend their days caring for their children who are obtaining medical care. Medical needs are often of a long-term and serious nature at nearby Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

U-Haul, a Phoenix-headquartered company since 1967, has partnered with RMHC of Central and Northern Arizona to provide meals and neighborly love for nearly a decade.
Be My Valentine
U-Haul volunteers served up a Valentine’s Day-themed meal for more than 20 guests with a menu of sliders, pizza, cakes and more – all served in the shape of a heart.
“I can’t think of a more rewarding way to give back,” Michelle Vukov-Mikel, a U-Haul Tech Center administrative assistant, said. “Making a Valentine’s-themed meal for the guests to come ‘home’ to was fun. Filling up goodie bags and watching the kids’ faces when they picked one out and opened it was definitely a feel-good moment.”
Dinnertime Heroes
Team U-Haul participates in the Dinnertime Heroes Program throughout the year and has prepared everything from pasta dishes to breakfast buffets for the many families who have stayed at the Roanoke House.
RMHC encourages local companies to arrange volunteer outings and make meals for their guests. Companies can also assist in other ways, such as sponsoring a room – something U-Haul also proudly does to support the community.
