Sin City Suburb Offers Good Neighborhoods, Attracts All Ages
HENDERSON, Nevada — The southeastern corridor to Las Vegas isn’t just a region you drive through. It’s the place you park and unpack.
Henderson seizes No. 7 in the U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities for 2015. Growth rankings are determined by the net gain of incoming one-way U-Haul truck rentals versus outgoing rentals for the past calendar year.
“Henderson is the second-largest city in Nevada, but second to none in our quality of life,” said Andy Hafen, Mayor of Henderson. “We are a community that draws families, retirees, busy professionals and entrepreneurs interested in living, learning, working and playing in a forward-thinking, inclusive and vibrant community.”

U-Haul locations in Henderson saw 52.1 percent of truck rental customers coming into the city as opposed to leaving. Henderson welcomed 6 percent more U-Haul arrivals year-over-year, while its departures were down 2 percent over the same span. The overall bump in U-Haul traffic made this desert destination, just 12 miles from Las Vegas Boulevard, an active spot for do-it-yourself movers.
Some of the nation’s best-known names in business, like Ocean Spray®, have built facilities in Henderson and lend credence to the city’s pro-business environment. Resorts such as the Green Valley Ranch Resort have also found Henderson attractive, building unique properties suitable to the residential nature of the community.
Henderson also is unique in that it is conveniently located near three of the most popular man-made attractions in the world: Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the Las Vegas Strip.
“We have the amenities you’d expect to find in Nevada’s second-largest city, including five-star resorts, seven championship golf courses and outstanding dining and shopping experiences,” Hafen said. “We’re proud that we are able to offer our residents outstanding master-planned communities, diverse educational opportunities and an array of family-friendly cultural and recreational experiences. I’m proud to live in America’s premier community.”
While U-Haul migration trends don’t correlate directly to population or economic growth, the growth cities data is a strong gauge of how well cities are attracting and keeping residents. Continue following the U-Haul Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities countdown at myuhaulstory.com and via Twitter @uhaul.

Quotable
“Henderson offers all the amenities of a major city like Las Vegas without the overcrowded and stressed environment that the tourist industry brings. I think that while Nevada’s unemployment rate is on par with that of the rest of the country, the job growth in Henderson is almost 60 percent higher than the national average.
