GLENDALE, Ariz. — U-Haul showed its ongoing support for Special Olympics Arizona by serving as a gold-level sponsor of the Guardian Games on Feb. 17 at Westgate Entertainment District.
The Guardian Games, put on by Sanderson Ford, offers young Special Olympics athletes the chance to compete with one another, event sponsors and law enforcement officials in a variety of games, ranging from street hockey and basketball drills to bocce ball and cornhole.
But the most enjoyable station may have been a Mario Kart arcade competition inside Dave & Buster’s.
U-Haul donated to the cause with a $10,000 contribution. In addition, U-Haul Team Members participated alongside these extraordinary individuals during a day filled with compassion, fun and new friendships.
Supporting Special Olympics
“Special Olympics embraces so much of what is good and right in our society,” U-Haul Executive Vice President Stuart Shoen said. “The chance to reach out and positively impact these young athletes is an easy notion to get behind. Special Olympics is making a difference in Arizona, and it’s our hope we can help make that difference truly significant.”
Along with events such as the Guardian Games, U-Haul assists the Special Olympics via other avenues.
U-Haul allocates a portion of its annual Arizona Tax Credit to benefit non-profit Academic Opportunity of Arizona. AOA is a qualifying School Tuition Organization providing educational funding and support to children living with disabilities and low-income hardships. One group that AOA, in turn, proudly sponsors with its U-Haul tax credit dollars is Special Olympics Arizona.
