U-Box Commercial is First U-Haul TV Ad in 34 Years

Jul 24, 2017

For the first time in more than 30 years, U-Haul has launched a TV advertising campaign. The U-Box commercial features the Company’s portable moving and storage containers.

“The goal is to build awareness that portable moving and storage is a better way to move for some people, and that U-Haul has this product,” states Sam Shoen, U-Box program manager. “It’s called U-Box.”

The U-Box commercial is now airing in the Phoenix, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City markets across multiple channels, programs and times of day. Current plans call for the ad to appear the weeks of July 24 and 31 and Aug. 14 and 21.

Watch the commercial during many popular shows such as “Judge Judy,” “The Bachelorette,” “Big Brother,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “America’s Got Talent,” among others.

The last time U-Haul launched a TV ad campaign was in 1983, when co-founder L.S. Shoen appeared to reinforce the Company’s message that “U-Haul will not be undersold, and we guarantee it!”

“There’s a misconception that U-Haul doesn’t advertise because we don’t have many TV commercials or print ads,” Sam Shoen notes. “The reality is that U-Haul trucks and trailers are moving billboards. That’s why our fleet imaging is so much more extensive than the competition.”

Months in the making

The U-Box Team spent months brainstorming ideas before filming took place over three days in June in Phoenix. You can imagine how hot it must have been for everyone, especially the actors who bundled up for a Christmas scene!

But the cast and crew handled it like pros, including two U-Haul Team Members who appear in the commercial: U-Box support manager Brett Walker and U-Box customer care representative Sandra Tuffly.

If you’re not in one of the areas where the U-Box commercial is airing (or you just can’t wait to see it during one of your favorite shows), you can watch it on the link top this article. And feel free to share it with friends who may not know about U-Box and its many advantages.
