Support Our Very Own Detroit Firefighters and the new BURN film Documentary
All of the true Detroiters know and understand the importance of supporting our very own Detroit Fire Department as we recognize the hard work and sacrifice they make every day protecting our families and our community. The Detroit Gala red carpet premiere and fundraiser of BURN is taking place on Friday, Sept. 28th at The Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward Avenue. Doors open at 5:30 pm and tickets cost $25-$50. After the film there will be a Q&A with filmmakers and firefighters.
The BURN Afterparty goes from 10 p.m.–2 a.m. at the Roostertail, 100 Marquette Dr. You must buy the BURN Afterparty tickets in advance as no tickets will be sold at the door and the cost is $25 and includes admission to the Roostertail, food, music, and a meet and greet with filmmakers and the Detroit Fire Department. Fundraising during the BURN Premiere and Afterparty will benefit The Leary Firefighters Foundation.
Harley Davidson…Need I Say Anymore?
Motown Custom Cycles which is a family owned and operated Harley Davidson specialist shop is hosting a special Open House on Saturday, September 29th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. located at 5671 Michigan Ave. Motorcycle lovers will enjoy the free food, live entertainment and be able to participate in the Motorcycle Show, in which participants will be judged on BEST: Sportster, Bagger, Custom and Import bikes.
Owner David “Easy” Arzola wanted to celebrate the many businesses and residents who have made this neighborhood home. Arzola has been passionate about the revitalization of Detroit, as many of us are, and has served as the chairman on the board of the Michigan Avenue Business Association, has been a volunteer to the Rouge River Project, Devils Night Patrol and the Clean and Safe committee. Let’s show our support of another Detroiter dedicated to saving the “D” – maybe we can convince “Easy” to give us a ride!
Laughter is the Best Medicine!
With the week coming to an end and the stress of life getting me down, right about now I could use a good laugh… plus I absolutely love comedy! Radio One Comedy Explosion starring Rickey Smiley, George Wallace, J. Anthony Brown, George Wilborn and Dominique is taking place at Fox Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 29th at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets range from $25 – $110. With a comedy line-up this great – you will be sure to laugh your XSS off!
Broadway in Detroit!
Hollywood seems to be calling my name and Sunday in the D kinda gives me a nostalgic feel! So why not get all dolled up this Sunday night and travel back in-time, by enjoying a good ol’ fashioned Broadway show. La Cage Aux Folles is touring in Detroit at the famous Fisher Theatre located at 3011 W. Grand Blvd. in the Fisher Building (located in New Center) through Oct. 7th. When I think of the Fisher building and the theatre, I can only imagine the extravagantly dressed people from the 1930’s being WOW’d by many movie stars and red carpet events. Starring George Hamilton, La Cage Aux Folles is 2010’s biggest Broadway hit earning three Tony Awards® this is a great show to end the week! La Cage will be featured Tuesday – Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m., and matinees Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $45 – $125, please note children 5 and under will not be admitted to this event. Now, just a small token of advice, Don’t Be Late!… If you are, be prepared to be called out by the very brazen show characters!
Enjoy your weekend in the D! Help me out and let me know what you think I should do next weekend!
